The discussion below held under the sponsorship of the Jewish Chronicle is so fraught and suffused with solipsistic navel gazing and special pleading that I am trying to work out how to broach my criticisms in a measured manner .
I could say I am shocked that such a distinguished panel, whom I presumed to be well read can manage such jejune, self centered and at times anti-gentile comments.
Surely these well educated people should subscribe to John Donne's immortal words;
"No Man is an Island entire of itself every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main...Any man's death diminishes me because I am involved in mankind".
It appears not.
The panel's self obsession is distasteful.
Is it only British Jews who feel the need to talk in this pompous manner and find and build new havens for their superior intelligences to complain in ?
Jews recently forced Deborah Orr of The Guardian to apologise for using the phrase
"The Chosen People".
Why ? another example of paranoia? Isn't that what the Haredim believe and The Bible teaches?
The Panel should read The Much Too Promised Land by Aaron David Miller and even more importantly, the book by a former speaker of the Knesset, Avraham Burg, The Holocaust is Over
Why are we Gentiles so quiet ?
The best and most critical commentators of Israel are Israeli or Diaspora Jews
Look at the sterling work of the JFJFP.
Why don't the great majority of British people demand a London Chronicle, A Scottish Chronicle. A Gentile Centre ?
There are millions of British citizens of Irish extraction in England.
Do they have an identity problem, a need to look to the Republic of Ireland for spiritual and national sustenance? Do they /we worry that we are about to be persecuted and vilified.
Do people worry about their Welshness and Scottishness or Polishness ?
Do the panel really think that;
" British Jews are living through a very dangerous period.
They are the only ethnic group minority whose slaughter official society will excuse"
It is of course preposterous and libellous but then it was written by Nick Cohen, another person in the same mould as Anthony Julius who sees an anti -semite round every corner.
Or should I say a New Anti- Semite who according to Julius,
"couches anti-semitism in certain kinds of discursive assaults on Israel".
It 's not very clever Mr Cohen and Mr Julius, in fact it is down right stupid and anti- gentile.
What exactly are Jewish values and what makes members of the Panel think the values are superior to other races, countries, religions ?
Mr Freedland intimates that Amy Rosenthal's name gives the game away and has she ever considered changing it but that of Ian Livingstone's "Scottish" name is no problem.
What game ?
The eternal question is what is a Jew ?
A race or a religion ?
Both ?
Is a Jew also by birth an Israeli with automatic right of entry and citizenship to Israel ?
Rabbi Neuberger is grateful for the shelter given to her family by the British and is the only one of the panel to truly celebrate her Britishness.
She knows of course that British non-Jews cannot be offered a reciprocal home in Israel.
She also knows that American Jews were less than accomodating at the beginning of WW2 in giving shelter to Jews from The Diaspora.
She also knows of the billions of dollars given to Israel by American Jews and the USA government mainly for arms, including the banned phosphorus that shatter the lives of thousands of Palestinians.
Why can't this highly privileged panel just BE citizens and accept the diversity offered in a city like London, a country like Britain?
Why can't they tell Israel that their aggression and cruelty must stop.
Stop giving them money,arms and academic advantages at our expense.
Ms Hobsbawm grew up with a father who celebrated the unity of mankind and hopefully wished for its eventual universality.
Her father wrote "Many traditions are invented by national elites to justify the existence and importance of their respective nation states.
His review of Shlomo Sands, The Invention of the Jewish People stated that it was
"both a welcome and in the case of Israel much needed exercise in the dismantling of nationalist historical myth and a plea for an Israel that belongs equally to all its inhabitants."
Ms Hobsbawm writes that;
"I am not a Jew who supports the policies of the Israeli Government...I find a lot of their practices incomprehensible and abhorrent".
She also doesn't enjoy the evictions of Palestinians from Jerusalem
"because she doesn't expect the Israeli State to behave like that".
What do you do with your life Ms Hobsbawm ?
They've been "behaving like that" for over sixty years
Please don't tell me about your busy domestic life.
I mean your interior intellectual life, that chattering part of the brain that should not let you ignore injustice, pain and the truth about Israel.
She compounds her lack of knowledge and perspective with the sickening;
"Sabra and Chatila...it was pretty unpleasant ".
Ms Hobsbawm... women were raped, bayonets stuck in their wombs and children disembowelled
Miss Rosenthal writes that,
" My heart starts to beat faster...it is a mixture of defensiveness and shame at the behaviour of Israel".
And yet what do they do about the heinous behaviour of The IDF, the irrefutable evidence of Crimes against humanity, breaking of international law, the stealing of Land, the building of apartheid Walls and the murder of stone throwing children, all published in this blog.
Not one of the Testimonies has been challenged by any known historian.
These are Israeli Jews, men and women soldiers giving the Testimonies who are not as Anthony Julius would have it I am sure,
"self hating Jews".
Supporting the government is being brave" he bleats.
About what Mr Julius? in heavens name, being brave about what ?.
Julia Neuberger thinks "there are Jewish values that we ought to be shouting about".
Tell me Ms Neuberger what those values are and if those same Jewish values apply in Israel.
Ms Hobsbawm tells us of introducing The Shoah on television to her children.
It is indeed a horrible document and will give them nightmares as the words pour out and the layers of the so-called "banality of evil" are revealed.
Ms Hobsbawm also owes it to her children to encourage them as they get older to read books like
The Ethnic Cleansing of The Palestinians by Ilan Pappe, an Israeli Jew forced out of Israel by bigots and racists.
Get them to read the diaries of Victor Klemperer, the books of Primo Levi and Carlo Levi.
Drinking The Sea at Gaza by Amira Hass, My Happiness Bears No Relation To Happiness by Adina Hoffman, Palestine In Pieces by Kathy Christison. Works by Mourid Barghouti, Raja Shahed and the great poet Mamoud Darwish, the list is endless and I doubt if Mr Julius has read many if any of them.
Too much time to be spent by him on tracking down anti-Semites whilst Palestinians die waiting for medical care and justice.
Tell your children about the proposed uprooting of an ancient people, The Bedouin from their ancestral homes and then tell them about the Nazis' policy of Ethnic cleansing.
Tell them about the Israeli Tour Guide who when I praised the rescue of the Ethiopian Jews responded,
"But would you want your daughter to marry one?".
Miss Rosenthal tentatively suggested more intermarrying should be considered as permissible
Well Ms Rosenthal I recently attended a reunion of the Baecher family and realised my family was even more assimilated than I had thought.
Suffice it for me to provide you with one branch.
White working class boy born in London marries white girl born in Zimbabwe to a Czech Jewish mother and white Cambridge born Englishman. Czech Aunt Lisalotte survived Terezin, Belsen and Auschwitz and lived to age 101 in New York.
Susan my sister marries a Frenchman then a German and lives in France all her adult life.
Her daughter marries a Syrian Muslim. A granddaughter is now the mother of Moise whose father is a Black Jewish Frenchman (these labels are catching) born in Togo and living in Shanghai.
My nephew, white Oxbridge educated and from a middle class back ground marries a Chinese girl from Bejing and has two Chinese /English children (or just Children?)
My wife's South African male cousins both brought up as Jews are married to practicing Christians
Their sons are both maried to non-Jews. Her female cousin married a Jew.
My daughters and wife who have no interest in Judaism except from an Historical family angle have an absolute right of entry into Israel but not me. I rejoice in my diverse family and in living in London.
I never get up in the morning wondering who I think I am and as far as I know neither do the members of my family.

As a three year old boy who survived Terezin I was born in Vienna in December 1941 to a Jewish mother. Later I was adopted by English Jews. I have two sons-in-law who are non Jewish,one a Muslim, one a Gentile. How would the panel like to pigeonhole me ?

Do you really believe Ms Rosenthal that the general public don't get the Israeli side of the story ?
Mark Regev the South African born Israeli Government spokesman is a mendacious witness to the power of propaganda.
I do wonder what members of the panel do with their political lives.
Anthony Julius, I think long ago decided to love Israel right or wrong and closed his mind to the mayhem and cruelty of the IDF. His legal expertise doesn't mean a thing when it comes to moral matters or international law.
He pathetically bemoans that;
"It is holding Jews and The Jewish State to a standard higher than any other state"
The nature of this statement is breathtakingly illogical.
So it is okay for Israelis to kill and maim, break international law all the time other States are doing it?
But Mr Julius, Israel claims to be European, where democracy rules.
Whatever the European faults of countries like Britain, France, Spain, Italy, Germany et al we don't currently keep refugees in camps for over fifty years, build Walls of apartheid, keep a subjugated people waiting hours at check points, refuse pregnant women access to hospitals.
We don't fine an officer or soldier a 100 shekels for the murder of a twelve year old who has thrown stones.
Our soldiers don't, as far as I know, tie hostages to the front of their jeeps or deliberately bulldoze olive and orange groves and houses. This is all documented in the pages of this blog.
Ian Livingston is beyond the pale. His every utterance is laced with cynicism, falseness and the sound of cliches.
Julia Neuberger makes many of the right sounds but won't go any further and of course she now has an auntie who made aliyah at age 88 to visit in the land of her dreams.
Why not drive her through some checkpoints, show her the Wall and call at a refugee camp with her Ms Neuberger?
Why not reveal the trauma visited upon Palestinians every day ?
Ms Hobsbawm's background would give me hope she might see the light but it doesn't sound promising
Amy Rosenthal comes across as somwhat aware of the horror but chicken livered and unwilling to follow the logic of her fears through.
But maybe it's not too late for her.
Who knows what Jonathan Freedland stands for.
He writes sometimes of his dismay at Israeli actions but at the end of the day doesn't convince me of his impartiality and intellectual honesty.
Whilst a complacent, self satisfied group of Britsh Jews sitting in comfort in London whinges about their mental states, another swathe of land is stolen, water rights are violated and nasty little settler children taunt and attack Palestinian children. Not one panel member commented on the Haredim's attempt to drag Isreal into further bigotry. A grown man worries that he will be tempted to sexual desires by the sight of an eight year old girls' legs.
Finally I am struck once again by the truism that Israelis and many Jews don't see the Other, The Palestinians. The word Palestinian features just once in the lengthy discussion.
I should also reassure the panel that I read much about the depredations and murders by Hamas and Fatah. I recently attended a photographic exhibition which showed a Palestinian woman whose legs had been destroyed by Hamas in a punishment shooting.
I have read about every single atrocity commited by Palestinains againt Israeli civilians and I condemn them unequivocally.
I have no problem in condemning their actions and am perfectly willing to engage in debate on the subject of Palestinian actions.

I intend to renew for the New Year my resolution on this blog to expose those Zionists and anti- Gentiles who peddle their hate wares in our media and press.
I have no illusions about my insignificance to the public at large and the "contrarians" who blandly and with eyelids sown up identify the liberal left as being a monolithic group.
Any true liberal carries as part of his or her DNA the ability to distinguish between different ideologies and act accordingly.
I have never bent the knee in my private life to the pseudo intellectuals who masquerade as liberals and as the conscience of the left. Many of the contrarians have a habit of sneaking into their articles and conversations accusations of anti-semitism.
J'accuse Barbara Ellen, Nick Cohen, Mark Lawson particularly and it goes without saying the mendacious Melanie Phillips and David Aaronovitch of this practice.
What can a solitary voice do in this dreadful conflict that daily takes and destroys lives ?
Not only weeping for the the dead Israelis and Palestinians but for the daily stripping away of the carapace of democracy claimed by Israeli apologists.
Very little is the answer. But I am determined to do my miniscule best to follow tenaciously the lobbies and self seekers and to expose the hypocrisies of leaders like Jonathan Sacks, The Chief Rabbi of Great Britain.
I will check,double and treble check every item that I feel must be published, whether true or a racist and anti-gentile opinion
I will pursue the phonies; the pious Christian, Tony Blair who makes no effort to defend the Christians of Bethlehem and is joined in this indifference by the Chief Rabbi . At least the Archbishop of Westminster spoke of the persecution in his Midnight Mass sermon in Westminster Cathedral.
I have written to him complaining of the ignoring of Palestine but am yet to receive a reply.
My guess is that the tight circle of our rulers will prevent him criticising The Chief Rabbi, Tony Blair or any one else.

One important point must be made.
I refuse to make every time I criticise Israel, The Zionists, the USA Jewish Lobby or British Jewish Lobby led by Gerald Ronson, Lord Janner and others, some token obligatory passage in which I establish my credentials as a secular critic without any prejudice against any race or country by mentioning connections and sufferings of my own extended family.
That I am a lefty goes without saying, a bleeding heart and a liberal devoted to Green causes and
No I don't wear sandals but I do have a beard.
Let's say, if you sympathise with John Bolton we could never be friends unless of course you recanted.
I am prejudiced against the branch of Zionism which sees itself as a chosen people with the right to murder and constrain another people.
I am prejudiced against the increasing racism and intolerance of many in Israeli sociey especially the Haredim
I am terrified that Israeli belligerence and arrogance might lead them and the supine USA and British governments into war against Iran. Should this horror scenario happen it would not only mean the destruction of the State of Israel but the deaths of thousands of Diaspora Jews.
J'accuse the Zionists and anti -gentiles of not caring about their fellow Jews

Whilst it is perfectly understandable that a Jewish Community Centre costing £50 million pounds was desperately needed in London's mean and narrow streets so people like Melanie Philips, Nick Cohen, David Aaronovitch et al can seek shelter from the hatred of the anti-semites one does wonder why the Mayor of this multicultural city, Boris Johnson hasn't helped launch a similar iniative for persecuted Muslims, Gentiles and disaffected Jews let alone my Aunt Madge ?

These shocking figures were given in a report issued by the Palestinian Liberation Organisation entitled, "A People under Occupation". The year also saw 3,300 Palestinians in the West Bank and Jerusalem detained by the Israeli occupation authorities.
The PLO report noted that in 2011 alone the government of the Zionist state approved the construction of another 26,837 settlement units across the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including 1,664 housing units in and around Occupied Jerusalem; almost 4,000 acres of land belonging to Palestinians have been confiscated by Israel; 495 houses have been demolished; and 18,764 olive and fruit trees have been uprooted.
With regards to Jerusalem, the report records that the establishment of the Shu'fat military checkpoint by the Israelis, which separates Jerusalem from the Shu'fat refugee camp, has resulted in the isolation of more than 60,000 Palestinians living in the camp and the areas around it. This is part of what the compilers of the report confirm is Israel's Judaisation policy, as was the closure of the Magharba Gate Bridge which leads to Al Aqsa Mosque.
Illegal Jewish settlers, claims the PLO report, have committed a series of "terrorist" attacks on mosques throughout 2011, which escalated in December with arson attacks on the Okasha Mosque in West Jerusalem, the Nour Mosque in the village of Burqa in Ramallah, and the Ali Ibn Abi Talib Mosque in the village of Bruqin village in Salfit. Settlers also, the report notes, wrote racist slogans on the Sahaba Mosque in Bani Naim in Hebron and violated the sanctity of the St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church near the River Jordan.
Also in December, Jewish settlers set fire to at least 12 Palestinian vehicles across the occupied West Bank and confiscated around 500 acres of Palestinian land to expand their illegal settlements near Jenin and Bethlehem.
