Subfrequency sound, or infrasound, consists of sound waves below the 20Hz frequency range, below the range of normal human hearing. Sounds in the 10Hz to 19 Hz range, with sufficient volume, can be perceived as pressure against human tissue. In other words, we can feel infrasound on our skin, in our internal organs, and in our brains. Our whole body is a tactile "ear" for infrasound.
Studies suggest that infrasounds can cause feelings of awe or fear. There is also evidence that since infrasounds are often perceived subconsciously, they may cause vague feelings that odd or supernatual events are taking place.
The built environment is flooded with artificial infrasounds. This project makes this inaudible world audible. This is an archeological documentary of our infrasonic ecology, bringing to light the rumbles and hushes that reverberate against our subconscious every day.
