"On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris.

No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit."

Wow, that was amazing. I was starting to watch it muted (it's late) but man, the sound really adds to the experience!

It's cool, yes, but in fact he drove his own mercedes and put the ferrari sounds on it later. You can see it here: lesfilms13.com/dea_a_z/envrac/images/rendezvous.jpg

According to Slate.com, the car being driven is actually a Mercedes-Benz (no specific model given) while the engine sounds were "played" by a Ferrari.

Oh, snap! That was amazing. But at least one trick of the trade is the fact that he mounted the camera on the bumper, as opposed to the dashboard. Being lower to the ground makes it seem faster.
