The United Nations Development Programme, UNDP, is developing a regional project to increase access to modern energy, in line with the global UN initiative Sustainable Energy for All. Today, 2.7 billion people across the world rely on traditional fuel such as wood and charcoal for household chores such as cooking, more than 70 percent of these households are found in Asia. Access to clean cooking solutions saves lives, improves health, protects the world’s forests and liberates time for women who spend long hours cooking and searching for fuelwood.
