Interference presents a reductionist version of reality where people’s movement determines a musical soundtrack. Filmed at a busy street corner in Hong Kong, pedestrians are turned into vertical lines that move across the screen. The video image is analyzed in real time: movement patterns of different lines trigger a series of musical notes that build up a contemplative soundtrack. Other sonic motifs further emphasize the strong sound-image relationship. The piece is particularly interested in the transition from analogue to digital world and the moments of interference that occur during the process.
