The Beast 2013 Race Report
Gangneung TrailsAdd PhotosTag
Well, I had imagined a nice, crisp, clear Korean Fall day for the Beast; but nature had other plans. When it started raining the night before, I had visions of people not seeing the washed out road markers and having all of the runners scatterd througout the backroads in Gangneung within the first 5k! However, thanks to Suzie Spitzmiller biking the road sections to keep people on track, and some amazingly waxy Korean chalk, everyone found the trail okay! It was awesome to spend the day with all of you! I first want to say a big thanks to the volunteers; Suzie Spitzmiller, Sally Phillips, Lianne Blanchard, Augustine Contrera, Amelie Kelly, Mle Lobsinger, Sam August Gray, and Ben Cooper. You guys braved the rain all day with a smile on your face! And a big thanks to all of the runners; Yann Bernaquez, Daniel Lenaghan, Neale Jones, Kate, MK La Loba, Elizabeth Doster, and Brian Peric. A Great effort by everyone! 1. Yann Bernaquez 2:27 (a new course record by 40 minutes!) King of the Mountain 2. Daniel Lenaghan 3:15 (right on the old course record) 3. Elizabeth Doster (Queen of the Mountain) ............a few notable mentions: Kate (she made a push half way through to get the female course record but missed the last turnoff 450 meters from the tomb. She ended up running an additional 7km's out. She may have run more kms than anyone on race day!), MK La Loba (she had a solid race to the tomb with a smile on her face all day!), Neale Jones (he was steady all day for a solid finish, but ran into some knee issues on the return), and Brian Peric (he was on trace for a solid turn around, but seemed to be leap frogging people on the Mountain while getting a bit turned around. Definitely the most interesting race of the day!) Can't wait to see people next year! Thanks for making the first go at this a memorable experience. · Updated on Monday Photo album: goo.gl/hnHIEl
