Nude Descending a Fountain was a site specific performance piece created in celebration of Marcel Duchamp and the centennial of the 1913 Armory show. It was a great privilege to honor the European modernists who in many cases were being shown in the US for the first time in the very same building, the 69th Regiment Armory on Lexington Avenue in NYC. 100 years before our performance, Duchamp introduced himself to New York with Nude Descending a Staircase No.2, which shocked even the cubists at the time. We danced in the spirit of the absurd, the grotesque, the multi-temporal extra dimensional repurposing of form and surrealization of the banal. It also happened to be International Women's Day, which we celebrated inadvertently but none the less.
