This is the New York band Black Dice performing at the Festsaal Kreuzberg in march 2008.
I was very disappointed with that show. I have a few of their records so I knew what I was up for but their new material just seems kind of boring... or maybe it is the live situation or they were tired from touring... I don´t know.
An electric tribal drumbeat, some microphone distortion and synthesizer noises strangely faded from one idea into the next... no songs, no curves, no peaks - just a collection of sketches basically. Maybe you can´t really do on stage what they do in their studio - improvising, overdubbing, editing, filtering...
Some parts reminded me a bit of Animal Collective and some stuff sounded a bit like Wolf Eyes and the beat could have been a Liars beat. In the end the only things they really came up with were awfully loud bass frequencies which didn´t turn them into a noise band just made it more difficult to listen.
Maybe I just stick to the records...
