The NZSM Friday Lunchtime Concert on August 23, 2013 was a concert of works written for NZSM performance Staff by composers who were themselves former or current NZSM staff.
In this recording Inbal Megiddo (cello) and Jian Liu (piano), NZSM Lecturers in Classical Performance Cello and Piano respectively, perform 'Sunt lacrimae rerum' by Ross Harris. Ross was, for many years, a lecturer in composition at the School of Music at Victoria University. This work was written for Inbal and Jian. Ross notes that the piece's title ('There are tears in things') is a quote from Virgil's epic poem 'Aeneid' – the full quote being 'There are tears in things, and mortality touches the mind', a reminder of the frailty of human existence and the power contained in art.
These videos were filmed and edited by Chris Watson for SOUNZ, Centre for New Zealand Music, with audio by Roy Carr, Senior Technician at NZSM.
