The Experiments perform their song 'Functioning Member' at The Royal Dive in Oceanside, CA on February 29, 2008.
* Shot with Canon HV20, 24p by Pete Nutz
* Audio recorded on Fostex MR8HD onto 4 tracks:
~ Left (Dan guitar) - Samson c02 condenser microphone
~ Right (bass / Andy guitar) - CAD gxl3000 condenser microphone
~ Kick drum - AKG D11 microphone
~ PA feed for vocals
* Audio brought into Final Cut Pro as 4 separate tracks
* Edited with Final Cut Pro on a Mac Mini
This is the latest in a line of audio recordings using this method. This is the first recording with the AKG D11 and the CAD gxl3000, and they make a huge difference. The kick drum and bass are so much bigger and deeper. Previously I had used a Samson co2 on both sides of the stage. They are great for guitar, but just can't get the low end of the bass like the gxl can. Also, the AKG D11 sounds much better on the kick drum than the Shure SM57 I had used in the past.
Here's a forum post I made about the audio recording method back in Oct. 2007. It's still accurate, but "now with better mics".
