I flew to Lisbon from New York City.
I took the trolley up to the Sé and spent the whole afternoon winding down historic streets to the Praça do Comércio. It was dusk when I arrived.
There's no gate or embankment marking the riverbank. The stones are slippery from the rain and the tide (yes, this is a river with tides!). You can just walk in and disappear. Would the lonely city take note? And when you've come this far, why not try?
