....is the new comedy pilot directed by comedy high priest Louw Venter and created by Late Night News writer and facial hair exponent Christopher Steenkamp.
Starring Kurt Schoonraad, Zinzi Mangweni, Anne Hirsch, Dylan Skews and the whipped cream of SA stand up comedy this story of hapless comics trying to hit the big time propels the audience on a roller coaster ride through the dark valleys, soaring cliffs and badly sign-posted cul-de-sacs of the entertainment world.
Shot in beautiful and rather expensive cinematic style, Louw Venter, sometimes known as Corne or Twakke, uses his pagan comedy prowess to conjure up magical performances from the cast, even before breakfast.
Not only is this an attempt at humour but we also explore highly important and relevant social themes including but not limited to:
iphone data costs
Semi naked Shakespeare
Eco blogger wankers
.......................and that's just the pilot
In their quest to carve out a comedy empire six desperate comics battle brain-dead club owners, bitter bloggers and a pathetic public.
Eddie, their exasperated leader, attempts to unravel the mystery of comedy success before it unravels him. Zinzi is marketing, he has the Blackberry. Kurt juggles work with comedy, work usually ends up on the floor. Ryan’s a family man, he has the scars to prove it. Chris likes beer and doesn’t like being punched in the face. Brendan loves Shakespeare and doesn’t have a girlfriend.
Add in the Bling Bum, Thick Neck and a cynical radio jockette and you have a recipe for disaster.
On stage there’s nowhere to hide.
