John Yates does not like writing about himself. “I hate writing about myself,” he said. Very well: John was born in England and moved to the US to work for Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys) Alternative Tentacles label and make album covers for ten years. Since then he started his own record label (Allied Recordings), ran a magazine, designed hundreds of book covers, and produced three of his own books, all the while creating his own brand of art with often violent imagery coupled with witty, anti-authoritarian barbs. Yates calls his response to the cruel and absurd injustices that surround us, “Gestures of futility and frustration in pictures and words.” Others describe his art as disturbing yet funny—is a picture of a cop on fire funny? It’s certainly disturbing. It raises questions. And it makes you think, a commodity that seems to be in short supply these days. That’s why we created the John Yates Collection from KR3W featuring two original designs and one classic.

“What are you rebelling against, Johnny?”... “Whaddaya got?” he replied.
