Major love for "Die Sendung mit der Maus" (The programme with the mouse), one of my childhood TV constants :)My brother just called me over to watch today's show on Turkey. Despite having been born and growing up in Germany and identifying myself as both German and Turkish, I get happy when watching/reading unbiased information on Turkey. Probably comparable to the relationship between some individuals of Jewish fate or community and Israel.Even though, I have to admit that I believe in Secularism and Cosmopolitanism more than anything concerning this matter. This is certainly due to my parents' convictions and might also be due to growing up as part of a minority and having to fight against prejudices and various degrees of racism all along. I don't think that Germany is a particularly racist country at all, but every now and then I still run into the most crazy and outrageous !@#$ a sane person could possibly face. The last time in 2005 when a co-worker's landlord readily agreed on renting out an apartment to me only to withdraw his decision a couple of days later, after reading my name on a form. Upon asking his former landlord what on earth made him suddenly change his mind so late in the process, my colleague had to learn that the landlord did not want any foreigners in his apartment building. Incredible ... and sad.I enjoyed today's "Die Sendung mit der Maus" episode very much and I am sharing the official video podcast excerpt, available via the show's website. The video is in German and unfortunately only comprises the last part of the show, which was on the predominant religion in Turkey, Islam. Nevertheless very interesting, well done and absolutely worthwhile introduction to the religion - if you understand German that is ;)
