To better visualize a fight in this film, the Durian team decided to go out with mops and broomsticks and smack each other repeatedly.

I can't wait to compare it to the finished scene.
However if you are looking for something that is more along the lines of simple inspiration I would recommend looking on You tube for some videos of "Jogo Do Pau which is a Portuguese stick fighting system that is fantastic to watch, I keep praying there will be a teacher that moves to Los Angeles where I can learn! Just a couple thoughts.
I've been a martial artist for over two decades and I know what the difference between a real fight and a staged one can look like. A good sparring session between two competent martial artists can be just what you are looking for.
