X11E has finally faced its moment of truth! In one incredibly smooth flight testing day, the rocket was launched twice in order to test the FPV live-video downlink's range capabilities, once on an already tested motor, the second on a larger one. After passing these two tests rather perfectly, the frequent flying bird was sent back a third time, this time using the full fledged setup!
Joystick and ruddel pedals for controls, with a live video downlink with HUD telemetry! Finally the whole circle has come together! Aside for difficulty lining up the aircraft for apogee (on the FPV video all the pilot could see is blue, blue and more blue) the ensuing recovery and glide proved this system is completely AWESOME!
Next step - a much milder one compared to others in the project so far - is to include manual parachute ejection to allow the pilot to decide whether they can continue flying or choose to eject whenever they want. The aircraft isn't designed for landing yet, so in all likeliness the parachute will still be used for some time.
