'Interruptions' is a series of guerrilla-Esq series of pop up performances on the Montrose medians between Westheimer rd. and West Grey rd. during rush hour traffic.
The first installment of the Interruptions series began on August 21 at 5:00 PM on the median of Montrose Blvd and Peden St. by experimental Opera singer and artist Lisa E. Harris and artist Alisha Wormsley. Their performance entitled "Slaves and Indians" saw Lisa E. Harris singing opera live on the radio in a dress-like sculpture made up of a left-over section of the FUNNEL TUNNEL by Alisha Wormsley.
According to the City of Houston, 37,000 cars pass by Art league on a daily basis and due to traffic volumes, the road transforms into a temporary parking lot between the hours of 4:30 – 6:00 PM.
This series functions as a way of creatively ‘interrupting’ the average Houstonian's banal car commute to work or home.
According to an annual study from Texas A&M transportation institute researchers, the average Houstonian wastes more than two days a year on average in traffic congestion.
Watch out for more pop up performances on the Montrose Blvd. medians!!!
This project will not be advertised publicly.
