A new series of timelapse movies which I recorded this summer and autumn in the Swiss Alps.
Most locations are only reachable on foot, some need alpine hikes of 3-5 hours. I spent several weekends in cottages of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC), where I shot these clips.

Locations are: Diavolezza (Bernina Range, Graubünden), Gleckstein, upper Grindelwald Glacier (oberer Grindelwaldgletscher), Flüelapass (between Davos and Engadin), Schwyz, Rigi, Triftgletscher, Glärnisch.
Thanks to Regina, Michel, , Mirko, Martin, Jesko, ... for (nearly always...) waiting patiently for me to finish a shot!
Thanks to the hospitality in these cottages of the Swiss Alpine Club:
Glecksteinhütte, Trifthütte, Berghütte Diavolezza, Carschinahütte, Glärnischhütte

Shot with a Canon EOS 50D, Canon L 16-35/f2.8, Sigma 17-70/f2.8 and Sigma 10-20/f4.0
Intervals were usually a few seconds (2 - 7 seconds), exposure times slower than 1/100s to prevent TV flicker. Filters used: Hoya ND400, Hoya circular polarizer

Truly talented friend! I am producing a professional feature film by 2011 hopefully and will be looking for video footage like yours (of beautiful creation) to use in the film. Would you be interested in having some of your timeless footage in the film if we want to go that direction?! I could give you credit in the film for your art!
  • Michael Rissi plus 2 years ago
Hi Reuben, thanks! I am absolutely interested! You can find my email adress on my website:

Beautiful work Michael. I espacially love the last sequence. Do using shuttertime below 1/100 sec really help with flickering? I`ve almost given up on making more TL cause the flickering is so bad.
  • Michael Rissi plus 2 years ago
Yes, at least on my camera! It also helps a lot with HDR clips if the darkest frame is slower 1/100s. Using filters helps a lot!

Hey Michael, Coming from the "other" Michael Rissi, (and distant relative perhaps) I don't mean to confuse anyone here. I'm NOT the "time lapse" Michael Rissi. But I wonder, why is your identity picture a Coca-Cola logo on a red wall? The connection is lost on me at present. By the way, this is another example of your marvelous eye for composition highlighting an appreciation of some of nature's most captivating landscapes.
  • Michael Rissi plus 2 years ago
Thanks a lot! The landscape here makes it easy enough to make nice fotos...
Now you are making things complicated here :-) The coca cola logo? No idea, I just liked these murals in Chiapas (Mexico), where they paint on every bus stop or kiosk a Coca Cola (or Fanta) sign. And it's a great drink :-)

Truly a "cloud symphony", Michael - I know from my own experience how many miles and hours go into work of this caliber. Just beautiful and moving. Also, I just had to go back and see what that strange red form in the air was...!

Joined vimeo just so I could comment here. Beautiful sequences! Your time and dedication clearly pays off. A couple questions: You didn't list a tripod in your equipment list. I'm curious how you compromised between stability and weight for a tripod considering you were hiking to these locations. Also, what did you mean by "exposure times slower than 1/100s to prevent TV flicker"? How does the still image's exposure time affect TV flicker?

"exposure times slower than 1/100s to prevent TV flicker."
So the lower the shutter speed, the less flickering??
  • Goldenboi24k 1 year ago
Also, did you show in RAW,sRAW,or Jpeg.
  • Michael Rissi plus 1 year ago
Yes, that is my experience! The flicker gets worse the shorter you expose. To prevent Aperture flicker, I twist the lense to lock the iris!
