While perseverance, if not a sprinkling of stubbornness, has great value in addressing the challenges associated with representing Christ during the week, the attitude that we can do this out of our own resources plants the seeds that will ultimately undermine the entire adventure of being one of Christ's people in the world. This is why I've always been so drawn to the last line in Shel Silverstein's poem,
"Which goes to show if the track is tough and the hill is rough, THINKING you can just ain't enough."
