"Aasmaan" or "Open Skies" is inspired by Indian miniature paintings. A woman gazing out of her jharoka (window) overlooking a beautiful palatial garden is drawn to colorful kites in the sky. While she seems lonely and trapped in her surroundings, the kites signify freedom and spirit. The film represents her aspirations as she sets the kite free.

This short film is a part of my masters thesis in which the intent was to explore and interpret the qualities of a traditional two dimensional (2D) Indian art form called Miniature painting in a three-dimensional (3D) medium. I have tried to retain the visual expression of miniature paintings in order to evoke a similar mood in the animation.
