Martina Ford is a mother to twin boys, a wife, a Portland resident, an Oregon native and a nurse. She says she has fought against her instincts, sometimes hard, but her love of being a nurse and working in other cultures keeps pulling her to new lands. She has volunteered with Tigard-based Medical Teams International in Honduras, Uganda and three times in Haiti. Most recently she was in Lebanon providing medical care to Syrian refugees.
"There is sometimes a fear of not knowing or understanding a foreign place and with that comes apprehension, but to me that is exciting,'' says Ford.
We all have strengths and we need to give back with our strengths, she says.
