That was so beastly!!! What are the lyrics to the song? and is it on Itunes?
  • Dillon C. Novak plus 2 years ago
I think i remember that Everfound does not post their lyrics anywhere, so that if you want to know the lyrics you have to listen to the song a bunch....or the video ;)

The song is on iTunes and i just sent off the video to iTunes. So it should be up in a month or two.

I think the video is awesome and I have afew questions about the equipment you used. Was that really shot on a panasonic AG-HVX200a? I'm suprised at how much it looks like film. Did you shoot on tapes or memory cards? And where did you get your lenses and SgBlade from? (I'm looking to buy). Thanks.
  • Dillon C. Novak plus 2 years ago
Thanks. :) yes it was the HVX200a we shot on the P2 Card. We rented the lenses and the Blade we purchased from shoot35.com.

    Hey Dillion, great work!
I just have a question. In the behind the scenes the band had to playback faster, can you explain why that was? Was it only for the slow motion parts of the video or for the full thing?

    cheers!
  • Dillon C. Novak plus 2 years ago
Thanks! It was only for the slow motion parts...the rest of the shots we had playback at normal speed.

Dillon as always, brilliant. Love the earth tone colors to this. You have a great eye for working with natural lighting. Do you storyboard any of your videos? What's your preproduction like for these music videos?
  • Dillon C. Novak plus 2 years ago
Thanks man, I love the outdoors...expect one more nature based video before i go off to film school. But good question. If anything i story board concept shots for the band to get an idea of what it should look like. Then i just do a really detailed shot sheet of every shot, story or band, and i mark the frame rate, whether it is a dolly shot or not, what lens needs to be used, if it is a WS or CU, and any other special production notes. My shot sheet is my bible on set, I usually spend about a couple weeks working one together. I would post a .pdf of the one to this video but i'm going through a hard drive crash right now....so we'll see haha. :)

Cool, so pretty standard then as far as pre pro goes. What film school are you going to go to?
  • Dillon C. Novak plus 2 years ago
    won't know until spring! :)
  • Tim Olsen plus 2 years ago
Well good luck man. Film School is fun. I'll be out by this time next year and am looking forward to getting back into free lance music videos like this. Its a lot of fun!
  • Dillon C. Novak plus 2 years ago
yeah well i'm kind of sad because i'm going to have to stop doing them as much as i have.....haha....where do you currently go?
  • Tim Olsen plus 2 years ago
Yea I hear ya. I had just started doing music videos, but then had to stop to go to school. In a weird way though Im glad I did stop cause I have learned so much more that will help me in the future. I go to Full Sail University in Florida. Im from Wisconsin though.

    Brilliant work, I'm fascinated!
Could I ask about small thing? In some scenes looks like you used realy quick shutter speed (moving is very sharp without ghosts). What is common shutter speed for making music video (most of all when capturing a drummer) and if you changing the shutter speed in some situations or still the same?

Thank you, all your work is amazing and I'm really happy about behind the scenes videos. It's BIG help for us who starting with filmmaking too.
  • Dillon C. Novak plus 2 years ago
Thanks so much! i use uncommonly high shutter speeds for almost the entire shoot usually around 1/500. Mostly because when you are outdoors you have such a large amount of light to work with. Thanks i'm glad the behind the scenes are helpful!
  • Jiri plus 2 years ago
Wow, it's quite hight shutter speed - most of all because you're using a 35mm adapter and this take a light down. However - you told it's a outdoor with a lot of light. So - great! Amazing work!!! Result is brilliant!

Last question - what about gain? I don't see any noise - black is super black :-) Did you use any "minus" gain? (-3, -6) ?

All of your work is AWESOME !!!

I wanted to know something, I purchased a HVX201AE and I would like to know what precise settings you're using...
    I think I can see 24pn ... in 720p ?
How did you manage the slow-motion ?
And why did you filmed with music at high speed? is it to make a slow-motion effect in post prod?
HVX201AE or HVX200A ? witch do you think is the best ?

I have tones of questions for you, if i could do even 20% of the work that you do i would be so proud !...

One more question, your setup is : HVX200A->SGBlade(rr2)->nikkor mount?->very expensive Zeiss Super Speed Lenses->rod support (r2) from Shoot35->???

I hope you don't mind all my questions

Once again, you are very good at what you do! NEVER STOP!!!
  • Dillon C. Novak plus 2 years ago
24pn, 720, 200a. And we rent the 200a we use the PL mount for Ziess lenses we rent, rod support 2 and yes we purchased the blade from shoot35.com
  • Dillon C. Novak plus 2 years ago

Hey! This is amazing! Also, it turns out if you do 1280x544 the aspect is the same but without the bars and it still reads as HD! It looks really nice.

    Hello again,
I didn't see any PL mount on the sgblade website, how did you do?
  • Dillon C. Novak plus 1 year ago
We bought it off of shoot35.com..so I am not sure why it wouldn't be there. Sorry.

They have PL mount, it isn't listed. Send them an email and they will give you a price. I have no clue why they do not list it with the others either.
