They didn't build the traffic sewers. They weren't responsible for the horrible land use and lack of connected quiet streets. They didn't choose where they live.

But they want to ride their bikes to school. So they do.

    Good movement. Now add helmets.

They seem to be riding in a safe manner; why would they need helmets?
  • AKA MEDIA SYSTEM 1 year ago
Because they can't anticipate the crazy driving of others! If they're in South Florida (as it looks like), there are plenty of irresponsible, careless drivers who might make a wonderful effort like this a tragedy...

It's not just careless drivers. Road debris, pavement lips, gutter drains, etc. can cause an unexpected crash. When I was in College I went down one morning on the way to class. It happened so fast I didn't know what happened. Later I learned it was a parallel storm drain that caught my wheel. It was 1978 and I was not wearing a helmet. I was lucky to escape with a substantial road rash on the left side of my face. 32 years later you can still see a faint mark just below my left eye.

Keri, Great video. How are the bike bus and bike club going this year?

Hi Keri - I'm doing research on a presentation for our city (Norfolk, VA). We want to create events for a "Year of the Bike" among which, we'd like to do a bike bus with the local schools. Do you have more information on the bike buses in Florida/your area? How did they get started? How often? How did students get the word out about the bus?

Thanks for any help you have to offer.

    Best,

    Kelley
