Daron Acemoglu, the Elizabeth and James Killian Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, delivered the 2013-2014 Judge Ralph K. Winter Lecture on Corporate Law and Governance at Yale Law School on September 23, 2013. In this lecture, titled “The Value of Political Connections in Turbulent Times: Evidence from the United States,” Professor Acemoglu discusses how companies in the United States typically do not benefit from being connected to prominent political figures, despite the opposite being true in developing countries.
