Film maker Jawed Taiman (an Afghan now living in the UK), meets and observes families who are addicted to opium in Kabul, Afghanistan. He also observes the patients and workers of a private detox treatment centre, desperately under-funded, struggling to help the many victims of the Afghan opium trade. We are privileged to meet addicted youths, and are offered a rare insight into detox centres working in Afghanistan and into the lives of whole families who are blighted with drugs. Trailer edited by Jason Brooks.

Intense. Very interesting. Well made. Sad.
I was wondering whether you intend to follow the more political side of this realities in the future development of this film or rather the observational pan of it?
    Thanx.
  • Jawed Taiman 3 years ago
Many thanks for comments. it would be more of an observational then political, but whatever tells the truth will be shown.

    Outstanding film making!

Didn't the Taliban kill opium addicts? Is that what the kid means when he says that if the Taliban come back there will be no more addicts?
  • Jawed Taiman 3 years ago
He meant to say that during the Taliban regime any form of drug were banned. Peole were not allowed to grow opium or use opium. but now its everywhere. thanks for great comments.

Frightening as as always with these drugs, for sure without help it is propably impossible fot these families to recover.

Tragic. A beautiful people, but destined for destruction because of this drug. So young. Excellent production and it was subtitled very well. And Opium / Heroin is of the most severe and difficult substances to quit. Thanks so much for sharing.

Great job Jawed, I found this story very poignant, can't wait to see the whole film! Kudos for filming in this area, doesn't seem to be the best place to hang out with a camera at the moment...
  • Jawed Taiman 3 years ago
Hi Julien. Many thanks for your kind comments. Yes indeed it was not the best of places to hang around, but as a film maker you always get buzzed going to such places. I shall let you know of any further progress on the Doc.
    Many thanks

    Great documentary!
Thanks for making this, and I look forward to watching more.

Do you mind me asking - what did you use to capture the audio? It's very well done, I think.
Mostly shotgun mic for the interviews?
  • Jawed Taiman 3 years ago
Hi Sorry for the late answer. Thanks for good comments. The audio was captured with a directional mic connected to the camera. but its a good mic. As for my website, unfortunately some how its gone down we are making enquiry to find out why have we lost everything on our website. Should be up and running soon. Many thanks

This is a very good documentary, and one of the best I have seen on Vimeo. It's the right length (not too long), with good pacing. I really like the view into a genuine family afflicted with this problem, and the contradictory messages given from the family. Very good work!

Is there a 75 minute version of this as described in the British Films Catalogue? If so where can it be viewed? People need to know about this, espescially the evidence of heroin production going up rapidly. Who is getting the billions of dollars in drug money now?
