I've added storytelling to my art practice this semester. At my last critique (10/21/13), I dressed in drag, recreated characters from my family during childhood, and performed a story for my peers (they were in a storytelling half-circle formation) in a "fireplace scene" of my own creation. This performance is me reclaiming masculinity I was never allowed to experience during my childhood as well as an exploration of my interactions with humor and an audience.
This is my first performance of this nature. I plan to work the kinks out of this piece and create many more.
[Thanks to Evan Isoline, my techie, Bertrand Morin for the chair, and my fellow MFA loves for listening and laughing at my weird life.]
