Three Brothers is a gritty, intimate portrait of three young Irish-American brothers whose lives irrevocably change during a heat wave in New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen circa 1930.
Bound by blood but separated by three different secrets the brothers—Dickie, Walt and Adlai—run a butcher shop for their alcoholic father, Pat, whose broken spirit has isolated him from both the world and his sons whom he always felt were his burden to love.
Woven into the center of the three-part novel is the story of their Great Grandfather Cahal, who fled both the Irish famine of 1879 and his family responsibilities, which would later influence each of the brothers’ lives.
Inspired by the sensual, poetic language of William Faulkner and Cormac McCarthy,Three Brothers is ultimately about the mysterious, unshakeable connection of family, revealed most clearly during times of chaos, love, and violence.
