The Hebrides are a vast archipelago on the west coast of Scotland. Administratively, the islands belonging to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The Hebrides, on the whole, has an area of 7,285 km2 and a population of about 70,000, which occupies only a hundred islands, remaining the other four uninhabited. The main economic resources of the island are fishing, raising cattle and sheep, tweed craft production, distillation of whiskey and, as a secondary activity, growing vegetables and cereals. The main town is Stornoway (Island of Lewis), a fishing port.
