Since The War Room and Street Fight, no film has been allowed to truly capture the inner workings of a political campaign until now. How to Get Elected in America goes further than its predecessors with unprecedented access behind the scenes of Congressman Mark Takano’s successful bid for the US House. The film documents real life moments his campaign staffers fear, a long with in depth coverage on how Big Data, demographic changes, LGBT issues and political history shape American elections. The narrative follows Mark Takano’s incredible and unlikely journey from teaching in a public high school to becoming the first openly gay person of color in the US Congress. The feature documentary, produced and directed by Jamie Ruddy and Rupert Russell, is currently in post-production.
