Between October 19th - 24th 2013, Charterhouse Art department and Design Technology department took 29 students on a tour of New York visiting MoMA, Metropolitan Museum of Art, PS1, the Whitney, the 'Highline' and September 11th Memorial, amongst many other sites. Highlights included the Met's 'Nose' Opera at the Lincoln Centre; designed and adapted by William Kentridge and a thought provoking retrospective by the late Mike Kelley at PS1.
The 25 minute video documents our journey, with many NYC references, relating to a rich visual culture and cinematic history. You may recognise the opening music by Bernard Hermann to Scorsese's 'Taxi Driver' and an earlier score from the film 'Vertigo'. It hints at a darker core to New York.
I would like to also make reference to New Yorker Lou Reed (1942 - Oct. 27th, 2013) who continues to inspire as a story teller and song writer.
