Performers is an archive of portraits collating performance artists active worldwide.
During the last three years Patrick Morarescu aka Johnny Amore visited as many festivals and performance art venues as possible and endeavoured to depict their participants.
His aim is not the documentation of action art but to capture the personalities behind this artistic language.
Usually he takes the photo right after a performance with the purpose of retaining the energy that a live presentation imbues in the artist.
Meanwhile the archive contains around 180 different portraits.
The Performers catalogue shows a selection of 58 portraits, accompanied by quotes of some of the artists, presenting their thoughts on the relation between performance art and photography.
The publication does not represent a documentation of live performances, but a collection of personalities with an unusual character and specific life styles that are using performance and live art as their main medium. Most of the portraits have been taken immediately after a live performance; the intensity of the moment can be seen on the face of the artist.
The publication was produced in collaboration with Pia Hovi-Assad, exhibition curator at Pori Art Museum for
the exhibition at the Pori Art Museum/ Finland from 27th Septmber-24th November 2013 .
