In October 2013, Stephen conceived and directed a Christmas commercial for the Oldrids & Downtown stores in the North of England.

It debuted on UK TV on Thursday 7th November 2013. Stephen worked closely with the fantastic creative agency and production company Toast on the commercial - and stars the actress Anna Lukis and models Steven Maverick Hall and Sara Skjoldnes.

Stephen wanted this commercial for Oldrids & Downtown to be both aspirational and whimsical - and really sell the brand on its heritage and variety.

Stephen's concept was to use a small boy's magical model train to draw the viewer through the decades; from the 19th century through to the modern age. The wonderfully stylised and magical cityscapes that the toy weaves through feature objects from a host of decades - 1960s tin robots jostle for space with 1940s kitchenware, turn of the century Victoriana and modern tablets with photos of shopfronts on their touch screens . . . It's an amazing trip across time that also features miniature railway set people who come alive as the train passes them!

The project used Stephen's own concept designs, and his regular team - DoP Charlie Herranz, hair and make-up by Issidora, styling by Rachel Pearce - with art direction by Wolter Dammers and the team at S2. The grading and sound design were through the wonderful team at UNIT, whilst Toast masterminded the VFX.
