Headed up to the inland city of Ballarat today for the 2nd annual GM day put on by the good folk of the Ballarat and District Early Holden Car Club. Located at the Ballarat Turf Club, it catered well for the large number of GM made vehicles that turned up. Estimations were in the order of 450 seeing many of Holden’s finest on show as well as a good array of American made GM items. The quality was high giving the punters plenty to check out while making the judges work for their keep.
A number of clubs showed up in force including the HSV club, Geelong’s FX to HZ Holden club and the FX-FJ club just to name a few. Also on show was a larger than usual number of late model Commodores proving they can entertain the masses along with the rest. It’s also good to see the younger generation getting involved in this scene with their own style of detailed rides.
Promoted as a family day, there was plenty for the kids to do with a jumping castle, face painting and, as we were at the track, horse racing utilising the littlies as the jockeys for the parents entertainment.
The sunny weather kept the crowds coming all day and by the time the trophies were handed out to the deserved winners, all that was left to do was say “good by” and plan where the next event was going to be for a catch up.
A big congratulations to Jim and Scott and the Ballarat and District Early Holden Car Club for a well-run event and fantastic presentation of premises. Keep an eye out for this one next year and bring your GM built pride and joy with you.
