Magic Lantern progress on the Canon 7D
UPDATE: My 7D is no longer accepting firmware updates, which means that unfortunately I have been locked out of further development on the camera. Until I find a workaround, I've shifted work to the 5D Mark 2 and 550D.
This demonstrates the first steps to getting Magic Lantern running on the Canon 7D. It is not very interesting yet since I don't have all of the internals sorted out. The boot process takes a very long time since the Canon firmware is verifying the SHA1 signature of the entire flasher program, which is pretty slow on the ARM9. This will hopefully speed up once we're able to either enable autobooting from the CF card or bypass the signature checks.

Also just made a donation, and wanted to make a bit o a feature request.
I do a lot of timelapse (see my Vimeo account) and was wondering if it's possible to have an intervalometer built into Magic Lantern, and could it be possible to take a full rez photo without firing any of the mechanical SLR bits? Such as using live mode?
Thanks
Is that Mega Man music in the BG?
Thanks again for all your great work Hudson
Never though all this would be possible, that with great hardware incredible things can be achieved with software on a camera, which makes the canon 7D even more versatile.
Waiting for your firmware on the 7D.
Keep it up!
With the issue regardging it working with the 500D i have a group of people on the Cinema 5D forums, who would be willing to pay for you to go about hacking, it i dont know any other way to get hold of you so i thought here.
Here is the link to my petition to canon but many people have said they would pay you to try and crack it:
cinema5d.com/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=9332
So if it is possible to do so or attempt we would put a fund together before you attempt it.
Thanks !

Is there any chance of a timelapse function being built in like some of the nikon dslr's have?
If you could teach me how to program, I would gladly do it :)

I am about 24 hours away from buying the 7D. Just wondered when Magic Lantern might be coming out for this unit?

Cinema5D just posted an NAB interview with Canon USA's Tim Smith cinema5d.com/news/?p=3176 in which he basically says that Canon has no immediate plans to bring those 5DMII firmware enhancements (manual audio, histogram etc.) to either the 7D or the 1DMIV. Hard to believe that a company can be that stubborn and short sighted, but that was the official word...
So in other words, Tammell, we need you more than ever!!!! Please, please, please! Every 7D owner who wants to record decent audio in-camera is looking at you right now. With this announcement from Canon, Magic Lantern for the 7D has become a real urgent need. I'd donate again if there was a realistic chance that this firmware upgrade was going to happen any time soon. Thanks.
Looking forwad to news.
I have make a donate :) and hope :-)
Tramm I appreciate the work you've done, but, we really need an update from you! With an update and projected release date, I'd be willing to make a donation!

"Unfortunately, on the 7D Canon has cranked the security settings to
"maximum", but luckily they made some significant cryptography
mistakes and we able to make sense of the 7D updates. Thanks to the
efforts of arm.indy, we fully understand the signature scheme and
can sign our own firmware images. With the latest update for the
7D, however, Canon has effectively stopped my development with what
appears to be a firmware update counter: my camera no longer accepts
the signatures, even in Canon's official firmware files."
what is the Result?
