That footage was absolutely amazing! Kudos to everyone that made that video possible! I am really going to miss the shuttle program, we have 5 more left!

Thank you for this! It is a very unique perspective on shuttle launches that I haven't seen before.

Can't wait for the old dangerous program to retire. Problem is nothing we have in the pipe is even close to replacing it.

The hardware is getting more reliable as time goes on. This vehicle is like a lovingly maintained classic car. Runs great. The so-called "danger" is political spin to justify a new program. Any new designed vehicle will be *much* more dangerous the first few flights - no matter how "improved" the design is. Rockets are dangerous beasts. Look it up for yourself. How many rockets have launched ~130 times with only two losses? The lost lives are sad but are gladly risked by the astronauts. And those lives may not have been lost with some timely management action. The problems are not in the hardware! Enjoy your new program America (some day or some year - maybe).

Is there a sort of track listing for this?
I'd like to know what the music was from ~4:30 - ~9:00.

Watching space craft going through staging is one of the most awe-inspiring sights that never gets old. When the SRBs separate and suddenly the orbiter mated to the ET appears on screen with the ME firing as it continues its ascent, I feel a sense of wonder at the technology and the people behind it. It is truly a scene from a sci-fi movie, except that there is no CGI and we're really in space.

Absolutely amazing images. Thanks a lot for putting it up. Painful music and graphics though. Almost ruined it for me. If you plan to do more of these (and I hope you do), then maybe get someone with even just a hint of talent to take care of that part of the project? Or if not, then just drop all the cheezy effects (duo-colored font, drop shadows, animated elements, bombastic music etc.) and do plain and minimalistic style instead. As it is now, one gets the impression that it was done by a couple of teenagers in their parents' basement inbetween WoW-sessions. No disrespect, of course. :) Basically just graphics and music that do the images (and JSC's grand achievements) justice instead of making it look like a bad highschool project.

One gets the impression that you are a pretentious, arrogant and egotistical prick. How about you spend a little less time in photoshop tweaking your self portrait to make it all grainy/black & white and upload some of your video work so we can rip into it. Or maybe you could just find someone with a hint of talent to write your comments for you.

    No disrespect, of course.
  • Jeppe Utzon 2 years ago
Sorry if you feel inferior but it really isn't my problem.
  • Harry Wiggleson 2 years ago
Well, Tim has it right: it's easy for trolls to criticise in such a disrespectful way, while hiding behind presumed superiority. I'd be glad to see any of your work, you prick. Well said, Tim.

    All disrespect intended...
  • Jeppe Utzon 2 years ago
I appreciate how accurately you represent yourself. Was that the reason you signed up today?
  • Patrick McCrotch 2 years ago
    Jeppe Utzon,

simply put, this video has garnered 75,000 views in less than a week. Are you somehow upset because your haughty artistic leanings have earned you nowhere near as many views?? Poor Jeppe, put to shame by a "bad high school project".

    Get a life bottom feedr.
  • Jeppe Utzon 2 years ago
Wow! I seem to have unintentionally precipitated a new sign-up frenzy of the subpar variety on Vimeo. That's two in a row now. One more and it's a hat-trick – or doesn't it count when the sign-ups are fake?
  • Patrick McCrotch 2 years ago
2 is a frenzy? 80,000 views and rising...

Wow. When I worked there we just didn't have all the video assets to see this stuff. Nice collection! Way to go, Guys!

It's a shame most of the public finds this boring. A great video. I agree though injecting some music and editing talent could really make it shine. But I'm happy to see any shuttle video.

Just 5 launches left, and I still don't know what STS stands for. Space Something Shuttle?

Fantastic, I feel like my ten year old self who was obsessed with anything NASA and space travel.
I must must must get over to the US and see one of the remaining shuttle launches before it's too late.
The music wasn't that bad, besides I was too busy concentrating on the video. This is the sort of thing I'd buy if it was available in hi-def format.
    Many thanks.

Absolutely stunning photography. The shuttle program is too young to retire. Lets fix the shuttle's problems and go on. What if they canceled the development of airplanes because the first ones had some problems. There is a lot of space to explore. The risks are high, but so are the rewards. I was fortunate to watch a shuttle launch and this brought back the memories. I for one am ready to volunteer to go on a mission.

I want the rear-facing seat on the solid booster! What a ride. I am willing to be cast off with it if that's necessary.

Been in this business for 28 years and it is still an awesome sight to see... Imagine going from zero to 17,500 miles per hour in 8 minutes... simply amazing

It is good to see the program from that end. I work on the landing side of the shuttle program. It is a horrible that the program is ending. I think it is America's greatest progam to date.

Simply amazing! Some of those views i've never even seen before, especially the view looking down the sides of the shuttle, from the SRB's. It's so clear! I wish we could have these views during launch. And as long as i'm dreaming, i'd like them to be in HD.

I really don't have the words. Fantastic video compilation. It's amazing to stop and think about what humans have accomplished. I'm sad that the shuttle program is ending but I know newer, better, and cheaper space systems are the key to future space exploration.

    Great video Mike.

Have you made any progress on the soundtrack? I found the music great and am most interested in finding out the composer & song used during the initial shuttle liftoff.

    Thanks.

We would like very much to use this at school but the Websense filters block most video content. Any chance we could gain access to the clip for educational use??
or maybe it could be uploaded to discovery united streaming??
thanks for your time and consideration....

i forgot to add that i used to be one of the missile trackers long ago when i was a youngster....slight chance that some of the high speed footage might have a few of my fingerprints on them...:>
now i work with kids and would just like for them to experience the awe and wonder of getting this bird in the air and watch her FLY!

mike interbartolo, has any progress been made on identifying the soundtrack? I absolutely love it, especially the opening track (track starting at SE&I Imagery Integration title screen at ~00:30)! Please let me know. -B
  • mike interbartolo 2 years ago
SRB Sep and Descent: "Extension Tubes", composed by Lisle Moore, from the CD "Drumhead Percussion 1", Amphibious Zoo Entertainment (AZ-006)

Second Stage, ET Sep, and End Credits: "Magical Castle", composed by Lisa Bloom Cohen, from the CD "Orchestral Film & Score, Vol. 2", Nightingale Music (NIGHT105)
  • B P 2 years ago
Thanks, Mike! Any word on the opening track? The track that plays starting at ~00:30 starting with the SE&I Imagery Integration title screen? It's a really ambient / new age type track. The track is just beginning to play when the text "Monday, November 16, 2009 19:34 UTC..." comes up. Thanks!

Ok, I love this video, I've had it bookmarked I think since it came out, and I JUST realized that at like 2:06 they give a list of the composers of the music...haha, cool.
