In this video Dr Patrick Nolen, from our Department of Economics, discusses how men and women react differently to risk. There are also differences regarding competition: women shy away from it while men embrace it. Shying away from competition is correlated with gender differences on test scores in mathematics. To tackle these gender differences in risk and competition, policy makers have started to push for more single-sex education, though there is little evidence suggesting that single-sex education has the desired effect.
