I do not think that your description of the development of the early church is complete or explains the phenomena and I think that the idea of the miraculous in the supernatural sense is a basis for terror and not for happiness.
To believe in an arbitrary God who rewards some and leaves others in confusion, terror and starvation is to justify injustice and I do not want to be linked to injustice although I am not convinced that there is such a thing as justice in the world.
