Barringer’s Pep Rally
By Ron Scott
Friday October 25, 2013, the Communications Team visited Barringer High School for a pep rally. The pep rally was being held for Barringer’s home coming game that was held on Saturday, October 26, 2013. Go Blue Bears!
So, what is a pep rally and why is it relevant to write about it in this particular case? Well, the simple wiki definition for a pep rally is a gathering of people, typically students of middle, high school, and college age, before a sports event. The purpose of such a gathering is to encourage school spirit and to support members of a team.
In this particular case, Barringer is one of the new “Renew Schools” where two separate and different schools share the same campus. There’s the S.T.E.A.M. Academy with Principal Wayne Dennis and the Academy of the Arts and Humanities with Principal Yvonne Waller. Each School is different and distinctive with its’ own mantra, vision statement, and approach to providing high quality instruction.
However on October 25th with the competition of pride for both schools, the noise level reached a thunderous uniform sound of pride for the campus as a whole. And in a split second, these two separate and competing schools, had one voice, which spoke in harmony for the pride of Barringer High School. The pep rally was an action packed event. Barringer alumni and guest Hip-Hop greats Rah Digga and Hakim Green of Channel Live were in attendance.
