I made a faster version of your video and one I picked from youtube. I thought i was just a bit too slow :)

I do think it's an awesome machine you made there :D

I'm totally enthralled by the real time version. It moves that slow for a purpose.

"Times are strange", he mumbles, walking off...

    You are totally right. :)

I'm fine with the length too, but I couldn't help 'Unrotating' it... vimeo.com/7955259

    Also reminds me of...

i prefer your version, simply for the greater impact the crashing has without any apparent cause. It's a pity the camera shot wasn't full frame front-and-centre

Brilliant. The tension of things slowly being overtaken by gravity reminds me of "Der Lauf der Dinge" in a lot of ways. No reason to speed it up at all.

i would love to have a front shot of this and counter-rotate it in after effects so that you don't actually see it rotating but destroying itself.

I like that the kipple doesn't stay put inside the room and leaps out onto the floor instead. Art usually stays safely behind glass.

Martin Kersels did this back in 2001 with "Pink Contellation"

Do you think Zeger is aware?
  • xpez2000 2 years ago
Nice comment. I think this is an example of a rising phenomenon. Without proper research or historical perspective, it seems people make work with some kind of genius syndrome...and post it on the internet for other naive viewers to consume as the latest and greatest.

    ...as did the greeks

  • Excellent piece. Timing and choice of room and contents are exact. It is a very visceral and immediate artwork, that speaks amongst many things, of the physicality of change in life.
As for the comments: The brave get on and do it, whilst the scared laugh sitting on their asses.

    Brilliant work.

Please post a link to more of your art / or / gallery contact details.

great idea but there is a point, is there an artist who made this? or should we call him/her as artist?

  • julianna jouvenski 2 years ago
The Rotating Kitchen by Zeger Reyers was put into motion during the opening of the exhibition Eating the Universe at the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, Germany, last Friday. It will keep rotating slowly till February 28th 2010.

hmmm I have already seen this from another artist.

Instead of presenting what is easy to predict as shown here.

They mounted a camera to the kitchen apparatus(it rotates perfectly orientated to the scene and as a result when you see the playback of the video...the things that fall out of the cabinetry and shelves seem to fly out from their own volition.

Which to me makes it more compelling.
  • I'd like to see that version! Where do I find it online?
  •
  • Beautiful!
    Nothing to teach, just happens.
    I love your art

Not sure I get the point, but so be it. I do have to say i was rooting for something to land right on the ceiling light, maybe even the microwave and give it a good smash, but no such luck.

How very strange, but art is often eclectic and should have some kind of impact. Very cool!! I'm just glad that our earthquakes here in California don't flip everything upside down. Great exhibit, Zeger.
