1. The Story of Cap & Trade
The Story of Cap & Trade is a fast-paced, fact-filled look at the leading climate solution being discussed at Copenhagen and on Capitol Hill. Host Annie Leonard introduces the energy traders and Wall Street financiers at the heart of this scheme and reveals the "devils in the details" in current cap and trade proposals: free permits to big polluters, fake offsets and distraction from what’s really required to tackle the climate crisis. If you’ve heard about Cap & Trade, but aren’t sure how it works (or who benefits), this is the film is for you.

Good video, although it left out what is to my mind the most damning criticism of cap and trade schemes like the EU emissions trading scheme - they are not only a distraction from real solutions, but actually used as a valid reason for avoiding them:

"One of the main objections of government to meeting the renewables target . . . is that it will undermine the role of the European emission trading scheme. . . . "[Meeting the EU's target of 20% of energy being renewable] crucially undermines the scheme's credibility ... and reduces the incentives to invest in other carbon technologies like nuclear power", say leaked UK government documents"

Your devils are all made of straw. 1. Cap-and-auction is what is being proposed, not cap-and-giveaway 2. The vast majority of offsets are already legitimate, and the checks are being improved all the time. 3. No-one is suggesting that cap-and-trade is the be-all and end-all. We need other solutions as well. We start with cap-and-trade because it addresses the biggest polluters. Until we get it passed, good luck passing more ambitious measures.

Cap-and-trade is not a distraction, but this video might prove to be.

Good film, and thanks for sharing. The trouble with offsets is that they have the WRONG STAKEHOLDERS. The system encourages people to do the "right thing" for the wrong reasons, or the wrong thing to benefit themselves.

I hope that Congress takes this opportunity to go back to the drawing board and look at the alternatives to a fundamentally-flawed cap and trade system. It's time to demand that our lawmakers put good public policy above political expediency and look at what virtually every leading scientist and economist endorses as the best climate change solution: a revenue-neutral carbon tax. And there really is no excuse not to: a survey released yesterday demonstrates that a straightforward tax on carbon is the favorite policy option for addressing climate change among an overwhelming majority of American voters. Check out the study here: climatetaskforce.org/climate-change-policy-survey/

Good someone has joined crusade against Carbon Trade This farce has been going on for 15 years and this year at Copenhagen they are going to replace it with Emission Trade which is vaguer and Bigger.
The problem is however much bigger than you think it is because all politicians liberally funded by the oil and coal lobby are all in it COP 15: Bulshitting 15 years on Climate Change is a video which you may perhaps find interesting bit.ly/79wmG4

I love this video. I had to repost it on our blog at massmovementtv.blogspot.com. We've been seeing how globalization destroys third world countries and especially the islands. And now we're seeing how those same business are effecting the climate that's been flooding our islands. Thanks for this!

Like Your Vid but-the majority of people in North America are so strapped now, paying for something else isn't the solution as they've given up so much there isn't any more !

Great video, very interesting, and well-researched - but there is one Fatal Flaw:

The biggest problem with your video is that is assumes Anthropogenic (human-caused) Climate Change is a reality.
The evidence we have that is VERIFIABLE, plus the strong suggestion of fraud from the so-called "climate-gate" emails, simply does not confirm this as fact.
If it weren't for this glaring problem, I'd have shared this video.

This is nice and all... unfortunately global warming and cooling is a natural cycle. It has been far warmer and cooler than it is today in the last 1000 years. Let's not forget 30 years ago we were about to slip into a new ice age... haha yeah right. Also, every year since 2000 has been cooler than the previous, because we are no longer in a warming cycle for the earth. CARBON HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS WARMING!!! The sun, gamma rays, and clouds regulate temperature 100%. Please, if you care about the facts, check out this website: carbontruthaction.ning.com/events/hide-the-decline-truth-action

An economist named Nat Keohane has made a much more accurate video (also animated) about cap and trade. Search for "facts of cap and trade" on Vimeo.

Annie Leonard is great, but she's wrong on this. Nat Keohane's video presents a much stronger case: vimeo.com/8847746.

Cap and trade is the mose efficient and economical policy to solve the climate crisis. The Senate needs to pass a strong climate and energy bill NOW!
