This past weekend, not one but two of Washington DC's original Mod bands held an amazing reunion show at Comet Ping Pong on Connecticut Avenue. The two bands were Modest Proposal and The Reply.
Almost a quarter century ago these guys were representing British modern culture in the New World at the same time bands like The Jam, Purple Hearts, Squire, The Lambrettas and Merton Parkas were in the UK. And while Embrace, Government Issue, Dag Nasty, Swiz, Marginal Man and more were tearing it up harDCore style, Modest Proposal and The Reply held their own, carving out their own niche in DC's influential youth subculture history. In fact many past and current members of our beloved Pietasters grew up watching these two bands.
While at the show I took out my Flip Mino HD cam and filmed Modest Proposal in a very dark room playing their popular song Nobody Says No, the last selection of their set before they graced the audience with an encore.
In the editing/production of this one camera shot whim, I did my best to create visually a look you would expect to see from an old Ed Sullivan show episode in the early sixties where bands such as The Beatles, The Who and many more used to launch their careers in the US.
