A prototype design by Rob Scharein and Jamie Griffiths, allowing control and implementation of 2d and 3d video and objects into an active projection system. When viewed wearing the provided shutter glasses the media appear to 'float' in space. (NB The content appears as a ghosted double image without the glasses).
The location, size, orientation, colours, motion... infact any definable parameter... can be live controlled on the fly during a performance, including live 3D camera feeds.

The 3D Theatre provides a new way of archiving live performance as 3D viewable experiences, as well as being a media server that is also a fully INTERACTIVE system for live 3D projected visuals, sound and lights on a real stage. The system can used instead of set design or to enhance existing material sets and props by projection mapping onto stage pieces. Mixing of projection mapping, 2D virtual screens and traditional screen surfaces is easily achieved since all media outputs are individually defined and infinitely controllable.

This project was made possible in part by a grant from Indigeneity in the Contemporary World project at Royal Holloway University. The prototype shown in the video was installed in the Bargehouse on London's Southbank from Oct 24-Nov10 2013 as part of the exhibition 'EcoCentrix: Sustainability in the Contemporary World'
