  • Luke Ogden 2 years ago
hmmm yeah, there is something about those two. Not sure if they are legit.
  • Benjamin Reece plus 2 years ago
From my perspective this had to be real- when I think back, I randomly ran up to them and asked them to participate, to share a secret with each other... I was like "come on guys...all couples have things they have not told each other" then 60 seconds later, bang. Had to be real...but totally crazy, I agree.

To the girl with the void in her heart: My baby sister (who is three) came into the room as you shared your secret and said "Oh wow, she's beautiful."

I'm not that good in talking/understanding English and this sucks hard because I don't know if I got the message of the couple at 4:00.
He ran over the cat so he killed it or what does it mean?
And she has love poems written by herself and tells him that he wasn't allowed to read them cause they were about him?
  • KarlyyMiracle 2 years ago
Yes, he ran over the cat with his car and told his girlfriend that it went missing.
And the 2nd one is exactly right. She has books of love poems that she wrote about him and she won't let him read them.

I love that this was shot on a 5D MKII. Brilliant work, and great editing, too.

And if you're lucky enough to fall in love with a girl who fills books with love poems about you, you've done alright.

  • kcj Szwedzinski 2 years ago
exhYle.....the guy ran over her cat and killed it and did not tell her. That was his secret. It was a bad secret.

She has books of poems written about him and she loved him...her secret was beautiful..

as always, there is a common human voice and a current that makes you connect to every person...
    brave and beautiful

Did you use any lights or reflectors or just the soft light of the shade? What time of day was this shot? I'm assuming throughout the day.
  • Nathan Heleine 2 years ago
Hi Derek, no lights or reflectors … just sunshine and shade. It was shot throughout the day (late morning to early evening) over a 2 day period.

Yea, it was kinda crazy- after we shot it, we all looked at each other and were like, "Woah, she was beautiful too, that guy has some nerve!"

Ben, I would like to congratulate you for using video and music with the ends of portraying secrets as the "inside" to the emotions of human beings. A detail which is most of the time avoided in huge cities, like NYC. I felt identified with these human beings due to the seriousness of their confessions, mostly portrayed in their faces. I will remember this video as a secret... I saw this video, I felt like I know this people and I loved it.

Red-Headed Girl in Plaid Shirt says, "Wait, um, I just have a question." The group surrounding her laughs. She continues, "Why would you share it now if you usually wouldn't share it with anyone else? It's a total stranger."

[Serene, soft rock instrumental plays in the background, continues throughout video.]

Black Man Hidden From Full Sight in Black Shirt says, "How about ever since I was 18, I didn't know how not to have more than one girlfriend?"

Boy in Purple Shirt says, "[inaudible to me--someone else fill in, please] If you have a girlfriend, right, and you like her, but there's another girl, and you don't want to break her heart? You go out with her..."

Woman with Big Sunglasses says, "I like to eat cereal, in my bedroom, alone, in my underwear." Laughs, then continues, "So there you go."

Boy in Light Blue Shirt says, "My secret is that I hate peanut butter and jelly."

Early-30 Year Old With Long Hair Says, "I used to fantasize about being a secret agent sometimes."

Boy in White Shirt says, "I hate birds."

Early-30 Year Old With Long Hair continues in background, "Having like 17 passports and a stash of cash somewhere? And what would I do, where would I go, you know?"

Boy in White Shirt continues, "I think because I hate when they fly, and I can't fly."

Early-30 Year Old With Long Hair continues, "Maybe because of a lack of excitement in my life. Maybe..."

Woman With Gold Chain-Link Necklace says, "The secret that I--I'm afraid to go back into my hometown."

Man with Suspenders and Gray Shirt says, "Last October, I broke my computer, and I told everyone that I spilled coffee on it, but I actually peed on it in the middle of the night." Group laughs.

Tall Man with Hairy Chest continues, "Well, I've been telling people that I have a real job, when I moved out, so they wouldn't think I was pathetic."

Heavy Man with Thick Glasses says, "Um, I--The first time I ever jerked off was to a LaToya Jackson video." Man with Curly Hair and White Shirt says, "Oh, awkward." Heavy Man with Thick Glasses continues, "Uh, hey, you're only 12 once, you know."

Cute Man with Big Rectangular Glasses says, with a French accent, "My secret is that I slept with a man."

Black Man with Glasses says, smirking, "I plan on breaking up a couple in another country for my own personal gain."

Man with Glasses Attached to Shirt says, "Really, true story."

Woman with Pearl Earrings says, "I transferred schools for an ex-boyfriend, and I told everyone that I didn't. Now you know. Ah, that's so weird. I just said it."

Woman with Glasses and Long Hair says, "I'm a lot better before you really know me."

Woman in Couple says, "Hey, dig in there deep." Man in Couple with Beard says, "Aye, you know, uh, your cat that disappeared? I ran it over." Woman in Couple says, "Hmm, let's see. You know, like, you know all those books that I have that I don't let you read?" Man in Couple with Beard says, "Yeah." Woman in Couple continues, "It's just all these love poems that are about you."

Man with Black Hair and Stubble says, "Uh, my-my grandmother. Well, I didn't get to be with her when she died, so..."

Boy with Braces says, "I believe sex [death] is a beautiful thing -- a beautiful part of life."

Woman in Yellow/Black Plaid Shirt says, "Um, I don't mind being honest about this." Laughs. Continues, "My best friend's dad died of cancer recently. He was really meaningful to me. We grew up together. He pretty much raised me, and when he was going to the hospital for his last--his last, like, goodbye, basically--uhh, I remember, there was a lot of people that were waiting for him. He asked--he'd only have two people in the room--and he specifically asked for me to be there. And that really changed my life."

Girl in Red Plaid Shirt says, "Yeah, like, seriously, that I act like an idiot because, I don't know... Because I have a void in my heart." Laughs.

Hey, not to be a smartypants about it or anything, but I really thought the boy with the braces said "I believe DEATH is a beautiful thing -- a beautiful part of life."
But I suppose you know better, your project after all :P
  • mairedanaan 2 years ago
Im pretty sure they beeped it out haha .
  • Michael Brown 2 years ago
He said death. No doubt about it. I'm sure because the first thing I thought was "aren't you a bit young to know about death?". Then I thought the better of it, because my own daughter was confronted with death much too often and much too young, and it's quite amazing how she has learned to deal with it.
  • Benjamin Reece plus 2 years ago
Yes, it was "death" - michael, I thought the same thing....but you are right...plus, death takes many forms.

Two of them hit home, the girl that said she's much better before you get to know her.
I can't help but feel like I'm that way too, it's why I avoid getting closer to people, so they won't be disappointed.
The last one, I'm not sure how much she meant it, but as soon as I heard it, I started crying.
  •
  • danielle johnson 2 years ago
The girl that said shes so much better before you know her, I still feel that way. I'm much better from a distance, so to Andie, I'm with you. we can be close together. (the girl and I look alike, even more scary)
  •
  • Andie 2 years ago
Danielle, even though you feel the same way, I still have this fear that if you did get to know me, you'd end up saying "Wow, she was right, she was better before I got to know her".
I don't know why, I guess it comes from a long history of feeling like people think I'm better, smarter, funnier than I really am and not wanting them to know that.
  • Sam Ellens 1 year ago
Impostor Syndrome. Everyone feels it to some degree or other at some point.
