This award was inspired by a young man who desired to go above & beyond, who reached outside of himself & his little world and made it a priority to better the lives of those around him. His name was Justin Perkins. Justin was diagnosed with cancer in his sophomore year at Monta Vista. He lost his battle one year ago. His mission in life was, "I want to help people after I'm gone." This is one way he is getting to accomplish his simple & selfless dream.
This award is given to high school seniors who share the same spirit. They'll all tell you the same thing: they just like helping people. This years' four winners participated at multiple kids camps, benefit concerts, the Special Olympics, made missions trips to Mexico & Japan, helped in church youth groups and much more (because I don't really know everything they did!) What's more is that they continue to desire to help people now as they are enter college.
This year's winners are Brianna Mercado of Silver Creek High School, Rebecca Wagner of Monta Vista High School, Graham Paterson of MVHS and Curtis Gatley of MVHS. Well done, guys!
