During his college years, Pietsch wrote and recorded two records with his group, Scooter & The Big Men. They received airplay on local stations and KROQ FM in Los Angeles. They shot several videos of their early songs, which attained some level of cult following due to their outrageous content. Pietsch moved to Los Angeles and worked as a music supervisor for Dick Clark Productions and The Walt Disney Company. In 1988, he appeared as the on camera music director in the talk show "Camp Midnite" on the USA network. In 1991, Pietsch became a full time composer and music producer. He produced 12 full records during this time and scored many television show including LAPD: Life On The Beat. In 1998 he was nominated for an Emmy award for the song "The Easy Way Out" from All Dogs Go To Heaven. To date, Scooter's music has appeared in thousands of episodes of television.

In 1990 and 2004, Pietsch wrote and produced two CDs for his group Retro Metro. Along with singer Bobbi Page and her husband, legendary violinist Sid Page, they combined world influences with French cabaret music and American pop, for a lush elaborately orchestrated sound. In 2007, Pietsch gave a concert of orchestral music at Zipper Concert Hall in Los Angeles that resulted in his first classical CD release. Patrick Gary, reviewer for Music Web International said "this is an evolutionary rather than a derivative work, and may be one of the most interesting and moving 21st century works that this reviewer has encountered." In 2008, Pietsch released his tribute to vintage Playboy cartoons and bachelor pad jazz with the CD "Cigarettes and Fishnets" by Sad Salamanders. Cover art was drawn by Playboy artist Dean Yeagle.

In 2008, SPM will release the new CD by Sweet 17, a blend of hiphop, R&B and Pop music styles featuring the vocals of Dannielle Gaha and Jessica New. The record company will also release GUI (Guitars Under The Influence) an instrumental guitar record featuring some of the finest players in Los Angeles and finally, a chamber classical CD under the name H.E. Pietsch.
