This is from Messiah, G.F. Handel's famous oratorio. I try to include classic and "serious" music in the show to balance off the more modern, up-tempo items. I chose this one because I could simulate an orchestra on stage with a large SATB choir on risers behind it: lower left are sopranos, lower right are altos, upper right tenors and upper left, basses. The melismas in this piece are challenging to sing but the multiple vocal entrances are interesting and show how contrapuntal Handel's music is. I thought it would be fun to put that into lights.
