See all Show me
I had the idea of creating an entire music track and video in one just using the audio from random footage I had on my hard drive. It kind of worked.. The melody at the start (if you could call it that) is just camera noise from the HV20 with the pitch of each individual edit adjusted in Vegas. Then I found a few clicks and pops in the video which I used for the kick/snare/hat kind of beat.. some fireworks explosions too...

Anyway, it was worth a try. Could probably come up with something better if I spent more than an hour or two on it. But still, always fun working on the music and video simultaneously in the one program.. Should do this more often.

This has a very coherent beat, imo. Some of my colleagues were given this as a final cut assignment. They had no clue how to do it, so I think you've done it quite nicely! Good job!

i wonder if exist any program with sampler that can process not only audio, but video too. so it would be far easier to do that stuff. I think it's not really complex for video to be processed with classic sampler just like audio, play with loop regions, ajdust envelope etc...
and for example ability to set filter settings to react some video-only effects, such as saturation or blur, or anything else after effects or vegas can do.

it's still not a sampler, but thanx a lot

Thanks for the comments :) I've already got an idea for the next one.. should be a lot more musical.

x.iso, yeah, maybe there's some vj software out there that can do something similar.

Modul8 (http://garagecube.com) is quite suited for that. But not for fx on audio, video it does amazingly well

Do you want to stop calling this a failed experiment?
    I love it!

Haha, no it's still an edit gone wrong. I posted it here before I even realised how bad it really was.

Stay tuned.. planning to start the next experiment tonight. I'll get it right this time, even if it takes me 2 days, or even 2 weeks instead of 2 hours.

    like it!

    - as soon as i get something a bit more useful than imovie (although it is possible to sync beats/clips - not great) then I'm off down same track..

I have ableton live - it has video track- might try that for now!

Hi Paul, yeah I heard Live 7 can now export videos. So you can actually edit the videos also? Maybe in 5 years time Live could be a killer video app. Vegas started life as a multitrack recorder, and now it's more well known a video editor.

Great exercise in making something out of footage that may be considered useless. Great job.

First one I saw doing this succesfully was Coldcut with Hexstatic with the Timber song:
    youtube.com/watch?v=nLu7p9bTJ84

One of the pioneers in this genre is Eboman. A dutch artist and creator of samplemadness:
    youtube.com/watch?v=7ZJjNfcNPqo

Just go search youtube for Eboman. He's doing this stuf for about 20 years I think ;)

Still nice to see those experiments! Keep up the good work!

That's mad.. yeah, I'm familiar with Coldcut's work and saw them live in December last year..

Eboman though, wow, first time I've heard of him.. That's crazy what he's doing. Thanks for the link. Got me inspired now to do more!
