140. Phoenix - 1901 - A Take Away Show
"We had been playing cat and mouse for months. We attended the same shows in Paris, talked a little, mentioning maybe we could do something together... to then see them leave, become huge, and even more intriguing, elusive. It took eight months for this Take Away Show to happen, for them to be free just one afternoon despite their super busy Hollywoodian schedule.

And then, what ? Be one hundred percent cliché, but how ? Exaggerate the origins of a band that became famous abroad ? Or maybe go and film them where they earned the success they now have ? And then we thought about this funny video the band posted on July 14th on their blog, where they play "1901" with an awful iChat wallpaper as a background. Eh, why don't we do it again, but for real this time ?"

Produced by Chryde for la Blogotheque
Filmed by Vincent Moon
Sounds by François Clos and Guillaume de la Villeon
Edit by Guillaume Guerry
Mix by Francois Clos

This is great! There's a lovely little moment at 01:39 where the drum loop skips a fraction of a second and the guitarists have to bend down to get their ears close to the speaker and back in time with the loop.

Me gusta.

great song, and as everyone has said, fabulous camera work. I love the outwards spiral from the initial close-ups, teasing us until you gradually move outwards and let us see more of the scene. the unsuspecting public and their interaction is special, you've really captured a moment in time. of course the band are great, and provide a great impromptu performance. great location choice, there is always a great crowd down there ;)

You just keep doing it. You have a great eye. Yes the musical talent is great, but you really convey the feeling of what it is like to experience the magic of street performers in Paris. I was a busker in Paris for a couple of years. On any given night, by happen-stance, you could get caught up in the magic of the moment, witnessed by few, never to be duplicated. However here, you have captured it for everyone. Kudos!

    Quite curious about the structure.
What equipment were used to record the sound? (great quality)
What about the light; just day light?
How many days for the whole production?
  • François Clos 2 years ago
Sound equipment : 3 HF mics, Cam sound, 3 zooms (H2 and H4), and a good stereo couple (you can see it on the second video). A long time was spent in post production to re sync it. a careful time was taken to mix it.
Light is just daylight, sound is just coming from the location (even in the intro and outro).

This is one of the most beautifully filmed videos I've ever seen. You couldn't have set this up and had it come out more perfect than what you captured spontaneously - the closeups of the band members, the tourists, bridge and groom, and passersby... well... passing by or staying in the background... GÉNIAL!
  •
  • awesome.this is one of my favorites groups from France.I listened for the first in 2007 it's was great...
