1. Water drop sequencer
The Water drop sequencer is an interactive sound installation. It creates sound by water drops falling on suspended iron bars with piezo elements attached. The viewer or performer can control which tones will be played by placing water bottles upside down in holes that are centred over the iron bars. It is also possible to control the speed of the dripping.

Thanks to Barrie James Sutcliffe and Mikael Kontinen for playing with the "sequencer" during the documentation.

Good work! Is there a kind of resonator after the Piezo?
  • Mårten Bergkvist 2 years ago
Thanks! No, it´s straight into a mixer and out to the speakers. I will soon post a installation were I bend the tones generated by the same iron bars in water. They have a lot of sustain =)

It´s also a big staircase, so there is a lot of frequences bouncing around...

Wow, super impressive work! So nice vizually and very nice sounding. I guess that your installation goes in to the super complex category, and mine in to the super simple... I like both ends of the spectrum =)

exactly the extremes I like too! I would say that even if the idea is rather simple, it is beautifully executed... I really wish I could see it live!

It's fantastic to hear a sonic installation that's melodic. These days, "sound" often means "noise" but this is so different.

Late reply.. Thanks Andy. I really appreciate your comment, and I very mush agree. I have friends making great noise installations and performances, but I my self prefer to bring melody and harmony in to play.

    GREAT!
I will send both your video links to my students as reference for their projects.
This one is magical. It would've been nice to see it live.

Yes, I was also hoping Colombia would be nicer, but...
  • Mårten Bergkvist 2 years ago
If you would want a workshop ;) Pretty obvious stuff though. Just stay creative!

Maybe next time Colombia will rock...

Would you really like to come and do a workshop with our (Angela's and mine) students? Maybe we can figure out something, if not for this term, for the next. Vad säger du?

They should pave the streets of London with this. But I wonder if it reacts if it's raining cats and dogs...
  • Mårten Bergkvist 1 year ago
It definitely will =) Ooohh, the scratching of claws....
