What is the Los Angeles High School of the Arts?

LAHSA is a fully-public LAUSD pilot school serving the RFK Community Schools Zone of Choice. Its focus is on the performing and technical stage arts. As a non-audition school, LAHSA accepts students with no prior experience in the arts. LAHSA students participate in a season of three productions a year. They design, act, and run tech (lighting, sound and video) for every production. The performing arts are integrated in academic classes.

LAHSA is one of the first pilot schools approved by the Los Angeles Unified School District, and is also one of the first Linked Learning sites in the district. The LAHSA program has roots in the Belmont Academy of Performing Arts, established on the Belmont High School site in 1998. LAHSA has been recognized by La Opinion, Newsweek, the CollegeBoard, LAUSD and by former school-board president Monica Garcia for working to improve student achievement.
